I am so sorry to learn of Bertha's passing. I worked with her as a DED-FCS for several years and she was an inspiration to me as well as those she served in South Texas. She loved life and her family! My prayers are with you!

I am sorry I could not be there today. I was extremely blessed to have visited Bertha and her family before her passing. I wanted to thank Bertha for teaching me to be better than the best. Before having the pleasure to meet Bertha, I was what I thought a proud Hispanic young woman. Bertha taught me how to be a proud Hispanic "PROFESSIONAL" young woman. She sharpened my edges and I am so grateful to God for her guidance and support. She was the epitome of a true leader! Thank you to God for having let us share her.

With all my love,

Nelda Leyba Speller

Wishing the family comfort and peace at this sad time. Bertha helped my daughter, Angelina, get settled in Brownsville when she graduated from Texas A&M and, with Raul, hosted me and my Mom while we moved her there. I will forever be grateful to her family for this help and hospitality.

My heart and prayers are with you all at this very sad time. She was one of the grandest ladies I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Hard working, devoted, kind, wise, and loving. The kind of role model whose influence will be felt for many generations to come.
We are all the better for having known her and all the sadder for the loss of her radiant presence.

Bertha was so gracious when Judy Flynn became ill while we were in the Brownsville area and invited me to stay in your home for a number of days. I will always remember how very kind Bertha and the entire family was at this stressful time.

Ms. Garza was, in a few words, beautiful, elegant, and gracious. My heartfelt condolences to Cynthia, Erika, and Mr. Garza.
