Adalberto Sierra, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his family on Friday, February 19, 2010 in Brownsville, Texas, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was 79 years old. He was born in Tamos, Veracruz, Mexico on April 23, 1930, and he brought his family to Brownsville in 1955. Together with his wife, Esther, he raised four daughters and three sons. "Sierrita," as he was affectionately known to many, lived life to its fullest. He always enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sharing funny anecdotes, and making everyone laugh. He was a simple, hardworking man, and he set an example of a strong work ethic for his children. He instilled in all of them the value of an education. Up until the time of his illness, he enjoyed having a full day's work. He was an optimist, and even in his most difficult days, he maintained a positive attitude.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel Sierra and Nazaria Reyna; his uncle who raised him, Eulalio Sierra; his brothers, Luis Sierra and Geronimo Sierra; his stepsisters, Nancy Alvarez, Carmen Guzman, and Arcadia Martinez; and a stepbrother, Elias Lopez.
Mr. Sierra is survived by his wife of 61 years, Esther V. Sierra, and their children, Nazaria "Chaya" (J. Daniel) Salinas, Myrna Sierra, Adalberto "Beto" (Delma) Sierra, Jr., Sergio Sierra, George Sierra, Laura Sierra, and Blanca E. Sierra (Adrian Salinas), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Also left to cherish their memories of "Gogo" are his grandchildren, Myrna Janel and Daniel J. Salinas, Adalberto "Tito" III and Maritza Sierra, Thomas and Angeliza Sierra, and Lauren and Amanda Sierra.
Visitation will begin today, Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 10 a.m. and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. this evening in the East Chapel at Darling Mouser Funeral Home. The Mass of Resurrection will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 22nd at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Dr. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Pallbearers will be Adalberto Sierra, Jr., George Sierra, J. Daniel Salinas, Adrian Salinas, Adalberto "Tito" Sierra, III, and Daniel J. Salinas. Honorary pallbearers will be Jose Antonio Sierra and Jose Luis "Chiva" Salinas.
Special thanks are given to the staff of Odyssey Home Health Care.
