“One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple”
Dora V. Blanchard, 90, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother entered into the glory of her eternal life on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville surrounded by her loving family.
Dora was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. A devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She was the Salutatorian of her graduating class of 1937. She was also one of the first Hispanics to be awarded a scholarship to Texas Southmost College. Dora had several pastimes that she enjoyed. She loved quilting and made quilts for everyone in the family, she loved traveling and was able to travel quite extensively throughout Europe, and she loved collecting elephants. Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Maria Velez; her husband, Lester E. Blanchard; a daughter, Norma Linda Blanchard; a sister, Alicia V. Villarreal and a brother, Guadalupe Velez Jr.
