Alberto "Beto" Flores Castro   I am a Veteran.

Alberto Flores ''Beto'' Castro went peacefully into the arms of his beloved Creator at Valley Baptist Medical Center on July 6, 2017, where he was surrounded by his loving family.

Albert was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. Albert received all his Sacraments at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, where he faithfully served as an altar boy, taught CCE, served on the Parish Board, and Financial Committee. He was a lector and commentator for the Saturday 5:00 p.m. Mass. Albert was also one of the first Extraordinary Eucharist ministers chosen from Our Lady of Guadalupe church.

Albert joined the United States Air Force to serve in the Korean War in November of 1950 and was honorably discharged in November of 1954. He received his Associates degree from Texas Southmost College and then his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from The University of Texas in Austin.

Albert was a retired BISD educator. He taught for 35 years, most of them at JT Canales Elementary as a 5th and 6th grade teacher. He was a member of the AOBE for 17 years, faculty representative, Past Treasurer for the Consultation Committee, and President-Elect and President of AOBE.

Albert was also the Democratic Chairman of Precinct #6. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa at The University of Texas, Life Member of TSTA, Knights of Columbus Council 1553, International Order of Alhambra, the American Legion, and the Veteran of Foreign Wars.

Albert is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe L. and Rafaela Flores Castro; his brother, Guadalupe Castro; and his sisters: Frances C. Bustinza, Rafaela C. Rosas, Mary C. Solis, and Casilda C. Longoria.

Albert is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Dolores Sanchez Castro; his children: Dolores Bryan (Rolando) Valadez, Hilda Bryan, Sandra Bryan (Randy) Tiemann, Denise Bryan (Joe) Briseño, Yesenia Castro (Paul) Juarez, and Juan Carlo (Marivel) Castro; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family numbers.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 8th, 2017, with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening in the East Chapel at Darling Mouser Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 10th, 2017, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1200 Lincoln St. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. The American Legion Funeral Honor Guard will render military honors at the graveside.
Paul Juarez, Christopher Juarez, David Longoria, Eddie Longoria, John Suarez, and Bryant Tiemann are honored to be serving as Beto's pallbearers. Beto's grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as his honorary pallbearers.
