Obituary

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Ireneo Mendez Guevara, affectionately known by many as Neo, entered into the glory of his eternal life on Friday, the 3rd of January 2020 at his residence. He was seventy-seven years of age.

Neo was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served overseas while stationed in Germany, where he cooked, prepared, and served countless meals for his fellow comrades. He was honorably discharged as a Private (PVT) before returning to Brownsville, Texas and later studied culinary arts and barbering. Neo was employed with the Brownsville Public Utilities Board for over thirty years before deciding to retire early in order to spend more quality time with his loving family. He enjoyed watching his Dallas Cowboys play football, and listening to a variety of Tejano and Latin music, collecting CDs from artists such as Pepe Aguilar and Vicente Fernandez, evening attending a concert by Roberto Carlos with his wife, Margarita. Every day, Neo would listen to his radio around the house, often times expediting the completion of chores such as washing the dishes in the kitchen while dancing to the rhythm of the beat, having a grand old time. Neo will always be remembered as a quiet, humble, but friendly hardworking individual who would make conversation with anybody that had the pleasure of meeting him and his kind soul who loved his family and friends dearly.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Estela Guevara; daughter, Veronica Guevara; son, Patricio Guevara; and by his parents, Mauro M. Guevara and Margarita Mendez Guevara.

Left behind to forever cherish their memories of him is his wife, Margarita Garcia Guevara; sons David Guevara, Raul Lopez IV (Julie M. Garza), and Robert Lopez; sisters, Teresita M. Guevara and Rosario G. Ybarra (Frank +); brother, Rev. Alfonso M. Guevara; nephews, Samuel Ybarra (Sharon) and Rene Ybarra (Lisa); and niece, Breanna Ybarra. Also surviving him are numerous extended family members and a host of many friends.
