Adolph Ernest Crixell

Adolph E. Crixell 77, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 surrounded by his ever loving family. The second son of a pioneer Brownsville family, the union of Vicente Crixell Jr. and Gloria Leal Cardoza. Adolph was born in Brownsville, Texas on October 6, 1940.

Adolph was born to the family tradition of serving others. But he was also an innovator. In middle school he decided that the students needed representation. So he approached the Principal, Arnulfo Oliviera and he agreed, and so the Middle School Student Council was born. He served as it's first President. All the while he was pursuing another passion, music, and learned to play the trumpet. Listening to the sweet tones come out of his horn would make you cry. In high school, he again served as Student Council President. He graduated with honors. His dilemma at graduation was that he loved pharmacy and the law. He decided on pharmacy because he said he could do many good things for many people every hour of the day.

He worked himself through pharmacy school at the University of Texas. He was a member of Kappa Psi honorary pharmacy fraternity and many other campus organizations. Upon graduation as a pharmacist, he embarked on a career that spanned fifty plus years. He served as a clinic pharmacist for the NIX group in San Antonio, as a professional sales representative for Abbott Laboratories and as a community pharmacist in Brownsville. His passion for service grew and he adopted the tenet "Service to humanity is the best Work of Life". He was a member of the Brownsville Jaycees and was nominated president. A member of the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce and various other civic, fraternal, professional and political organizations. His long term service to the Brownsville Planning and Zoning Commission, where he served as chairman gave birth to many innovations that are still in effect today.

He was an exemplary son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend.
Perhaps the lyrics of the Poem "The Quest" written by Darion Joseph and Leigh Mitch, for the musical "Man from the Mancha" best describes Adolph's approach to life.

To dream the impossible dream,
To fight the unbeatable foe,
To bear with unbearable sorrow,
To run where the brave dare not go.

To right the unrightable wrong,
To love pure and chaste from afar,
To try when your arms are too weary,
To reach the unreachable star.

This is my quest,
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless,
No matter how far.

To fight for the right
Without question or pause,
To be willing to march
Into hell for a heavenly cause.

And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will be peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest.

And the world will be better for this,
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage.
To fight the unbeatable foe.
To reach the unreachable star.
