BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Alicia Perez Stevenson entered into eternal rest on Saturday, the 3rd of May 2025 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence surrounded by her family. She was 93 years of age.
Alicia Stevenson was born in Brownsville, Texas on August 30, 1931, daughter of the late Alfonso Perez and Consuelo Samano Perez. She was a graduate of Villa Maria High School in Brownsville, Texas and Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas. She married the love of her life, Robert Eugene Stevenson, on September 2, 1961 and they celebrated their marriage until his death on the 12th of July 2022.
Alicia taught at Skinner Elementary, Canales Elementary, and Victoria Heights Elementary. She was known by her peers to be kind and giving towards her students. She would give the sweater off her back to her students to make sure they were not cold and offered her lunch to many so they were not hungry. She was very involved with the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and School, where all four of her children attended.
While attending the once all-girls school Villa María, she was a cheerleader for the once all-boys school St. Joseph Academy. Alicia was described by her doting husband, as “one-of-a kind.” Her personality was infectious and her love for her children and grandchildren immense. She was not limited to inner beauty, but she also found joy in modeling. She enjoyed acting in plays at Camille Playhouse, and was a member of the Gay Nighters Club and a member of the popular Serape Club. Early in their relationship and marriage, Alicia and Bob were known as a loving, fun and larger-than-life young couple who enjoyed weekend outings at the beach, and dinners at the Drive-In restaurant in Matamoros with their friends.
Alicia was a devoted Catholic who trusted in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was especially close to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She recited her novenas nightly and prayed the rosary regularly. She explored the beautiful land of Medjugorje on a pilgrimage with her younger sister Olga.
Alicia will be remembered for her amazing strength and passion for life. Her memory remains in our hearts.
Preceding Alicia in death were her parents, Alfonso Perez and Consuelo Samano Perez; her husband, Robert Eugene Stevenson; her sons, Samuel Edward Stevenson and Gary Barton Stevenson; and her sister, Olga Maria Snyder.
Survivors include her children, Robert Eugene "Bobby" Stevenson II and Lisa Stevenson Fendrick (Jack Fendrick); and her grandchildren Baylie Stevenson, Luke Fendrick, and Abby Fendrick.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 10th of May 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. A reception will follow at a time and place to be announced at following the mass.
Honored to serve as her pallbearers are Jack Fendrick, Luke Fendrick, Dale Stevenson, David Dempsey, John Champion, and Narciso Cortez.
The family will gather for a private committal service at Buena Vista Burial Park, where Alicia will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Bob.
