BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Alonso V. Sanchez, Jr., of Brownsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, the 12th of September 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 70 years of age.
Born October 13, 1955, in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Alonso was the eldest son of Alonso Sanchez and Juanita Sanchez Villarreal. He made Brownsville, Texas, his home and dedicated many years of his life to working as a fine-dining server. Through his work, his kindness, humor, and genuine care for others touched the lives of countless people.
Alonso will be remembered most for the joy he brought into the lives of those around him. He had a larger-than-life personality and a way of making people laugh, feel welcome, and enjoy the moment. To his family and friends, he will forever be remembered as the life of the party, someone whose presence could light up a room and whose absence will be deeply felt.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alonso Sanchez; his sister, Alma Delia Sanchez; sisters-in-law, Olga Martinez and Belinda Sanchez; and by his grandson, Bruno Magallan.
He is leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Martha Imelda Sanchez Barbosa; his children, Monica Sanchez, Martha Benavides (Derek), and Mayra Magallan (Jesse Jason); grandchildren, Diego and Areli Benavides, Robin, Caleb, and Santiago Magallan; siblings, Lilia Pena (Chacho), Luis Sanchez (Diana), Gerardo Sanchez (Adriana), Raul Sanchez (Juany), Gustavo Sanchez (Martha), and Sandra Guerrero (Rafael); along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who were blessed to know him.
Alonso’s life was filled with family, laughter, love, and unforgettable moments. While his passing leaves a tremendous emptiness in the hearts of those who loved him, his family chooses to celebrate the life he lived, the memories he created, and the joy he brought to so many. His memory will be cherished, his life celebrated, and his presence profoundly missed.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, the 15th of September 2026 between the hours of twelve noon and eight o'clock at night, with a service to be held at seven o'clock Tuesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
Visiting hours will resume at nine o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 16th of September 2026. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Valley Baptist Medical Center of Brownsville for the extraordinary care, compassion, and kindness they provided to Alonso and his family.

Nacido el 13 de octubre de 1955 en Matamoros, Tamaulipas, México, Alonso fue el hijo mayor de Alonso Sanchez y Juanita Sanchez Villarreal. Hizo de Brownsville, Texas, su hogar y dedicó muchos años de su vida a trabajar como mesero en restaurantes de alta cocina. A través de su trabajo, su amabilidad, sentido del humor y sincera atención hacia los demás dejaron una huella en la vida de innumerables personas.
Alonso será recordado, sobre todo, por la alegría que brindaba a quienes lo rodeaban. Si bien su partida deja un inmenso vacío en los corazones de quienes lo amaron, su familia ha decidido celebrar la vida que vivió, los recuerdos que creó y la alegría que brindó a tantas personas. Su memoria será atesorada, su vida será celebrada y su presencia será profundamente extrañada.
Las horas de visita se llevarán a cabo el martes 15 de septiembre de 2026, de las doce del mediodía a las ocho de la noche, con un servicio a celebrarse a las siete de la noche en la Capilla Este de Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
Las horas de visita se reanudarán a las nueve de la mañana del miércoles 16 de septiembre de 2026. Posteriormente, el cortejo fúnebre partirá hacia Buena Vista Burial Park, ubicado en 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville, donde se llevará a cabo la sepultura.
