Armando Lopez Castañeda

Armando Lopez Castañeda, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 23, 2021, at his residence with his family by his side.

Armando was born in Santa Maria, Texas, but had been a lifetime resident of Brownsville. He worked for the Brownsville Navigation District for 20 years. Upon retirement from the BND, he then went to work for Cameron County working under Commissioners Lucino Rosenbaum and Pete Benavides.

Armando was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate enough to have known

Armando was preceded in death by his parents, Antonia Lopez Castañeda and Victor Castañeda; along with 2 sisters and 3 brothers one of whom passed away this past Friday, August 20th.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his loving and devoted wife of 63 years: Ofelia Olivares Castañeda; 6 children: Victor Castañeda, Irasema M. Garza and her husband Jesus, Armando Castañeda Jr., Jaime Castañeda Sr. and his wife Leticia, Alma Zapata and her husband Juan, and Jorge Castañeda Sr. and his wife Graciela; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Visitation will resume at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Darling-Mouser. The Funeral Service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021, in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Armando’s son, Jorge Castañeda Sr. along with his grandsons: Jesus Armando, Juan Jose, and Jorge Garza, Juan Zapata Jr., Jaime Castañeda Jr., Jorge Castañeda Jr. and Jonathan Castañeda  are honored to be serving as Armando’s pallbearers.

Armando’s family is requesting that all those attending services please wear a mask to ensure everyone’s well being. At this time, we ask that food not be brought in to the funeral home. We thank you in advance for your cooperation with these requests.
