BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Aureliano Gutierrez, affectionately known as Welo, entered into eternal rest on Monday, the 15th of December 2025 in the comfort of his daughter's Brownsville residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 92 years of age.
Welo was born in Brownsville, Texas on June 16, 1933, son of the late Macario Gutierrez, Sr. and Gumecinda Gutierrez. He graduated from Brownsville High School and went on to attend Texas Southmost College.
A proud veteran, Welo served in the United States Navy from November 4, 1955 to August 5, 1957. He went on to work at Imperial Electric Motor Service as an accountant and sales manager until his retirement after 46 years. A devout Catholic, Welo was an active parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he assisted with ushering, kermesses, and bingos.
His favorite pastimes included his love for the outdoors, barbequing, fishing, hunting, landscaping and venturing the casinos. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs fan.
Preceding Welo in death are his wife, Irene G. Gutierrez; his parents, Macario Gutierrez, Sr. and Gumecinda Gutierrez; his grandson, Andrew Maldonado; his brothers, Macario Gutierrez, Jr. and sister Guadalupe Gutierrez; and his son-in-law, Vicente Maldonado, Sr.
Survivors include his daughters, Sandra Rodriguez (Elias), Maricela Gutierrez, Sylvia Maldonado, and Marisa Aguilar (Randy); his grandchildren, Isaac and Iliana Rodriguez, Vanessa, Vicente, Victoria and Andrew Maldonado, and Jessica and Randy Aguilar Jr.; his sister, Juanita Roussett (Clarence); and his great-grandchildren, Matthew Julian and Miranda Isabella Vasquez, Alexander Jude, Vivienne Marie, and Alivia Rose Maldonado, Mason Gael and Madison Irene Esparza, and Andrew Francisco, Lorenzo Vicente, and Xiomara Sophia Maldonado.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 18th of December 2025 between the hours of one o'clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to be recited at seven o'clock Thursday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 19th of December 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 555 W. St. Francis Street, Brownsville. Interment with military honors will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville.
Honored to serve as his pallbearers will be Vicente Maldonado, Jr., Isacc Rodriguez, Andrew Maldonado, Randy Aguilar, Jr., Robert Julian Vasquez, and Hugo Esparza.
Honorary pallbearers are Elias Rodriguez, Jr. and Randy Aguilar.
