BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Betty Van Meter Welch passed away peacefully on Sunday, the 22nd of February 2026 at Sunshine Haven in Olmito, Texas. She was 98 years of age.

Betty was born on January 1928 in Waverly, Ohio, daughter of the late Lote Van Meter and Josephine Loel. She had been a resident of Brownsville over 40 years. While she was able, she spent her time gardening and taking care of her beloved cat.

Preceding Betty in death are her parents, Lote Van Meter and Josephine Loel; her husband, E. Wayne Welch; her brothers, Lote E. Van Meter, John W. Van Meter, and Robert C. Van Meter; her sister, Avenelle Wittkugle; her sons, Lowell T. Allen, James "Mike" Allen, and baby Robert W. Welch; and her stepdaughters, Tarissa A. Summers and Juanita G. Calwell.

Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Sanford; her grandsons, John Allen and Kenn Sanford; her granddaughters, Kimberly Guerrero and Jessica Desomeaux; her step-grandson, Scott Watts; her step-granddaughters, Wendy Estess, Linda Bell, and Judy Henderson; as well as several great-grandchildren, a great-great grandson, and numerous nephews and nieces.

In loving memory, she will be missed by all.
