Catalina "Cathy" Martinez Canant

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Catalina "Cathy" Martinez Canant entered into eternal rest on Thursday, the 3rd of November 2022 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence surrounded by her family. She was eighty-three years of age.

Cathy was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved yellow roses and spending time at the beach. She was an animal lover with dogs, cats, birds, and turtles. She always welcomed anyone with an open door and heart.

She was the last living child of Benito and Conception Martinez and was the last survivor of ten siblings. She graduated high school from Brownsville High School.

Cathy was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church and is survived by her four daughters: Celeste Canant (Gabriel Garcia), Naomi Arredondo (Rene), Shannon Wood (Eddie Redou), and Stacey Canant; along with ten grandchildren: Geovanni Justin Barrios, Jackey Grimaldo (Michael Cuellar), Jayley Grimaldo, Jyssac Grimaldo, Zachary Wood (Darienne Floyd), Nicholas Wood, Haley Izquierdo (Jose C.), Alyssa Arredondo (Albert Pina), Desiree Guerra (Raphael), and Cindy Ray Arredondo; great-grandchildren: Melina, Karoline, Mikaela Mancha, Jacob Pina, Hunter Izquierdo, Miles Izquierdo, Sundae Guerra, and Travis Cuellar.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, the 6th of November 2022 between the hours of three o’clock in the afternoon and nine o’clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock Sunday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 7th of November 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. Cremation will immediately follow the mass.
