BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Celina Maria Tamez, a career music educator, passed away peacefully on Saturday, the 30th August 2025, surrounded by her loved ones at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 41 years of age.
She is loved and remembered by her family and friends. She was passionate about music, the performing arts, and we could always count on her to take plenty of pictures. After graduating from Kerr High School in Alief, Texas, she attended The University of North Texas and earned dual degrees in Music Performance and Music Education. Throughout her career she taught at Krum Independent School District near Denton, Texas and at Brownsville Independent School District in the Rio Grand Valley. She touched the lives of innumerable students with countless actions of love and inspiration.
Her smile and contagious positivity will be deeply missed. She was known for making memories at every occasion - including her dog Roxy in the fun. Living in the valley she found a love for fishing. She spent countless hours with her Dad and Arianna throwing a line in the water. A couple of favorite spots were by Dad’s RV and the pier.
Survivors include her parents, Julio Tamez and Olga Tamez; her brothers, Andres Tamez and Tony Tamez, and her beloved daughter, Arianna Murillo.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in Houston, Texas with details yet to be announced.
