Donald Giannangeli "Don" Johnson

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Donald Giannangeli “Don” Johnson, age 87, passed away June 14, 2021, at his home in Brownsville, Texas. He was born in Bellaire, Ohio, on September 20, 1933, the son of Dominic Giannangeli Johnson and Virginia Workman Giannangeli Johnson.

After the early death of his father, Don moved to San Antonio at the age of 19. He found a job as an insurance adjuster. He then returned to Ohio to marry his high school sweetheart, Norma Jean Fantauzzi on January 17, 1953. They resided in San Antonio for the next eight years where their only child, Donald Johnson, Jr. “DJ”, was born. After being transferred to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1960 he went to work as Sales Manager for Cherry Motor Company. After living in New Mexico for nine years, he took a job as General Manager for Money Oldsmobile in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1974 he bought the Volkswagen store in Brownsville, Texas. Known locally as “the Real Don Johnson” over the next 45 years until his retirement in 2019, he represented Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, Subaru, Suzuki, Hyundai, Chrysler, Plymouth, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram.

Don is survived by his son DJ and his wife Madeline; grandchildren Donald Giannangeli Johnson (Samantha), Kristen Johnson, Nicole Paynes (Anthony), and James Stone (Danielle); and great-granddaughter, Isabella. He is preceded in death by his wife, Norma Fantauzzi Giannangeli Johnson, his parents, and sister, Virginia Deaton.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, the 16th of June 2021 between the hours of five o’clock in the afternoon and eight o'clock at night, with a recitation of the holy rosary to be held at seven o'clock Wednesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 17th of June 2021 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville, Texas 78520. Entombment will follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville, Texas 78521.
