Dr. Daniel Garcia, Jr. Phd

Dr. Daniel Garcia, Jr. Ph D, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2021 at 1:55 a.m. after an 11 year battle with cancer.  His life was filled with joyful memories now living in the hearts of his surviving family.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Garcia, Sr. and Raquel Garcia.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dr. Silvia Manjarrez Garcia PhD; his son, Daniel Alonso Garcia, daughter-in-law, Alissa Garcia, and granddaughter, Ruth Garcia; two daughters, Marisilda Garcia Feliciano, and son-in-law, Eric Feliciano; and Lizabeth C. Garcia M Ed.  Dr. Garcia is also survived by his 5 siblings: Norma (Roger) West, Lety (Joel) Martinez, Belinda (Deodoro+) Ornelas, Oscar (Nelda) Garcia, and Carlos Garcia.

Throughout the course of his life, he was committed to education as an academic and Christian and has touched the lives of many teachers, professors, and administrators across the great State of Texas as a professor at the University of Texas at Brownsville, the Texas Education Agency, and a number of school districts around the state. His legacy lives on not just with his family but in classrooms across the state.  Dr. Daniel Garcia, Jr. will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, mentor and friend.

A celebration of Dr. Garcia's life will take place on Thursday June 3rd, 2021 with visitation with the family from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and a church service at 5:00 p.m. at his family home church La Primera Iglesia Presbyteriana Mexicana located at 600 East Jefferson Street in Brownsville, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to either the First Presbyterian Church in Brownsville or La Primera Iglesia Presbyteriana Mexicana, Brownsville.
