BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Edio “Nago” Garcia, 71, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Brownsville, on Friday, the 2nd of October 2026.
Born in Brownsville, Texas, on April 1, 1955, Nago lived throughout his life in Brownsville, South Padre Island, and Plano, Texas.
He was a proud father to Gina Rodriguez (David), Neo Garcia (Cathy), and Celso Garcia, and a devoted grandfather to Orion, Marlow, and Leo. He is also survived by his siblings, Adina Garcia and Osvaldo Garcia, along with extended family and many dear friends who loved him deeply.
Nago was the son of Bunea V. Garcia and Benito Garcia, who preceded him in death.
Nago lived a life centered on love, family, service, and the simple joys that made each day meaningful. For more than 40 years, he dedicated himself to education and coaching, positively impacting countless young lives. Those who knew him described him as a mentor, loving, kind, caring, and someone who always found the good in everyone and everything.
Nothing brought Nago greater pride than his family. He loved his children deeply and was especially proud of his grandsons. Their accomplishments, their stories, and simply watching them grow brought him tremendous joy. He wanted them to know that family comes first, character matters, and a life well lived is measured by the people you love and the lives you touch.
Nago loved his sports, especially his Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. Baseball always held a special place in his heart, and he fondly remembered his Little League baseball buddies and the friendships and memories they shared growing up.
For almost 50 years, Nago shared his life with his wife, Alma, his traveling, dancing, and fishing partner, and, most importantly, his partner through life. Together, they built a family grounded in love, commitment, laughter, and devotion. Their enduring love and dedication to family became an example to their children, grandchildren, friends, and all who knew them.
In keeping with Nago’s wishes, there will be no traditional funeral service. His immediate family gathered privately to honor him and said goodbye in the simple and intimate way he wanted. A Celebration of Nago’s Life will be held this summer, when family and friends can come together to share stories, music, laughter, and cherished memories of a life well lived.
In lieu of floral arrangements and customary remembrances, those wishing to honor Nago’s memory are invited to make a donation to a charity meaningful to them or simply honor his life by extending an act of kindness to someone in need, something that would have made Nago smile.
A Special Message from His Wife, Alma:
"My dear Nago, for 49 years, we walked through life side by side. We traveled, danced, fished, laughed, raised our family, and created a lifetime of memories that I will carry in my heart forever. You were my husband, my partner, my best friend, and my love.
I promise to keep loving and caring for the beautiful family we built together. I will remind our children and grandsons how very proud you were of them and how deeply you loved them. Your love will remain in our home, in our stories, in our laughter, and in the way we continue to love and care for one another.
You may have left my side, Nago, but you will never leave my heart. I will love you always."
