Eduardo "Ed" Genis Aguilar

Eduardo Genis Aguilar, 79, also known as "Ed" or "Eddie", entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at his residence in Brownsville surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Cuautla, Morelos, Mexico, in November of 1936 to Augusto and Albertina Aguilar. At the age of 20, Ed migrated to the USA, he learned English at Lydia Patterson Institute in El Paso, and earned his BA in Spanish at Texas Western College.

Ed served as Lay pastor of the Mexican Methodist Church in Van Horn, taught Spanish and French in Colorado City, Texas, completed his MA in Spanish at UTEP and began a 31 year career teaching Spanish and French at TSC and UTB in 1968. After his retirement in 1999, Ed continued as an adjunct professor until 2009.
Ed married Marcia Kahl of Oconto, Wisconsin, in 1964, and they celebrated 52 blessed years together in July. She survives him as does their son, Steven.
Ed was active in the First United Methodist Church, serving as church treasurer from 2000 through 2011. Ed also participated in the West Brownsville Lion's Club for many years and was an Elk and a Mason and a Shriner. From 2006 through 2010 he served on the board (Divan) of Al Amin Shriner's in Corpus Christi and was elected CEO (Potentate) in 2010. After that time, Ed's health declined and ultimately he was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) a rare form of Parkinsons. Ed was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.

Ed is preceded in death by parents.

Ed is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marcia M. Aguilar; his son, Steven Aguilar; a sister, Josefina (Juan) Galeazi; two nieces, and countless friends.
In accordance with Ed's wishes, he was cremated. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10th, 2016, at First United Methodist Church, 1225 Boca Chica Blvd.

For those desiring to do so, memorial contributions in Ed's name be made to Al Amin Hospital Transportation fund, Al Amin Shrine Center, 2001 Suntide, Corpus Christi, Texas 78409.
