Eduardo A. Gonzalez

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Eduardo A. Gonzalez, lovingly known as “Bibi,” passed away peacefully on Saturday, the 20th of September 2025, following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Born in Brownsville, Texas, to the late Antonio Gonzalez and Aurora Cobo, Eduardo grew up with strong family values that guided him throughout his life. He graduated from Saint Joseph’s Academy in 1961 and later earned his bachelor’s degree from Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Aurora C. Gonzalez; his brother, Antonio Gonzalez, Jr.; his brother-in-law, Carlos H. Cascos; and his beloved daughter, Cristina, whose memory remained close to his heart.

Eduardo is survived by his devoted children, Gabriela and Leopoldo, who were a source of immense pride and joy; his brother, Carlos Francisco; his sister, Candi; and his nieces and nephews, who lovingly called him Uncle Bibi.

Eduardo devoted his professional career to the fields of finance and banking. Over the years, Eduardo was employed with Red McCombs Inc. of San Antonio, the National Economic Development Association in Harlingen, and Texas Commerce Bank in Brownsville. Prior to his retirement, he served with distinction as County Treasurer for Cameron County, a role he fulfilled with integrity, dedication, and pride.

Throughout his life, Eduardo made significant contributions to public service, which he often described as “the most meaningful” aspect of his professional journey. He served on the Rotary Club of Brownsville, the Bail Bond Board of Cameron County, and the school boards of Incarnate Word Academy and Villa Maria High School, where his children were educated. Among his proudest achievements was his service on the Brownsville Independent School District Board of Trustees, where his commitment to education and the community left a lasting impact.
