Elia G. Garza

SUGAR LAND, TX. - With love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Elia G. Garza, who entered eternal rest on Wednesday, the 25th of February 2026, at the age of 90.

Elia was born on January 24, 1936. As a courageous teenager, she immigrated from Mexico to the United States, where she began building the foundation of a life defined by resilience, faith, and deep devotion to family. Living with a close family member during those early years, she carried a strength and determination far beyond her age. Through faith, perseverance, and hard work, she created a life filled with purpose and love. She graduated from Mission High School and went on to complete some college courses, reflecting her commitment to education and self-improvement. That same drive led her to achieve the remarkable milestone of purchasing her first home at a young age, a testament to her ambition, discipline, and steadfast belief in building a better future.

She married the love of her life, the late Oscar G. Garza, and together they made their home in Brownsville, Texas. Their marriage was blessed with eight children, one of whom was called to heaven before birth. Elia embraced her role as mother with strength, dedication, and sacrificial love.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Elia’s greatest joy was her family. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren, whose lives were shaped by her steady love, quiet strength, and faithful example. She had a remarkable gift for “crunching numbers,” masterfully stretching every dollar to provide for her large family. Her dedication and work ethic were evident during her many years as a bookkeeper at the Ramada Inn, where she was known for her reliability and skill. She approached her work and daily life with humility, gratitude, and undeniable trust in God’s provision.

Elia carried an ambition to see the world and embraced every opportunity to travel with family. Yet no matter how far she journeyed, it was time spent with her beloved husband and family that kept her rooted and fulfilled. She especially treasured gathering at her favorite restaurants and celebrating holidays surrounded by those she loved, moments that brought her pure joy. She also found simple pleasure in playing the lottery, ever hopeful and filled with quiet excitement.

Above all, Elia will be remembered for her strength, resilience, sacrifice, devotion, and the deep love she poured into her children and grandchildren. Her legacy lives on in the strong family she nurtured, the faith she modeled, and the values she instilled.

Though she will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing she now rests in God’s eternal embrace, and that her love remains with us always.

Preceding Elia in death are her beloved husband, Oscar G. Garza, and her son, Oscar G. Garza Jr., whom she now rejoins in eternal peace. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Virginia Garcia and Benilde Garcia, and by her brother, Armando Garcia.

She is lovingly survived by six of her children, Pearl Beltran (Adolfo), David Garza (Glenda), Bea Garza, Jaime Garza (Elvia), Patricia Armitage (Chris), and Jessica Garza (Shane). She was also deeply loved and cherished by many grandchildren, Angela Beltran, Jennifer Risius, Vanessa Beltran, Natalie Garza, Valerie Garza, Stephanie Norris, Jaime Garza, Jr., Andie Armitage, and Cole Armitage, and a great-grandchild, Josie Risius.

Elia is also survived by her sister, Magdalena Terrazas. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
