BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Elizabeth Ann Smith passed away peacefully, with her daughters by her side, on Saturday, the 26th of February 2022. Elizabeth was born in Hastings, Minnesota on August 25, 1947, daughter of Selmer and Leona Dahl.
Elizabeth received her Bachelor’s of Education Degree from Winona University of Minnesota and her Master’s Degree from Texas A&M University. She moved to Brownsville to begin her teaching career as a first grade teacher at Russell Elementary School. She went on to work in the Special Education Department at Hanna, Pace, and Rivera High School. It gave her much delight to see her students go into the world with knowledge, confidence, and independence. She was happiest helping students. She retired after thirty-one years of service.
Preceding Elizabeth in death were her parents, Selmer and Leona Dahl, and her beloved husband, Odery Paul Smith.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Hope Schmitz and Michelle Schmitz Cargill, both of Austin, Texas.
The Funeral Mass is tentatively scheduled for five o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 3rd of March 2022 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 1055 Military Highway, Brownsville. Cremation will follow.
