Gilbert J. Ortiz

Gilbert J. Ortiz, 88, beloved, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 19, 2021, at Valley Regional Medical Center with his family at his side.

Gilbert was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville.

Gilbert was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Olga G. Ortiz; his parents; and a brother, Albert Ortiz.

Gilbert is survived by his children: Diana (John Kimmel) Fuller, Norma (Edward) Barron, Raul (Laura) Ortiz, and Omar (Eva) Ortiz; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 sisters-in-law, Nelda Ortiz, Gloria G. Villegas, Inda Guzman, and Mary Helen Flores along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021, and continue through 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the rosary scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. A Funeral Liturgical Service is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Drive. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside under the direction of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2035 Funeral Honor Guard.

Gilbert's grandchildren: Michael J. Barron, Alis Fuller, Gilbert Ortiz, Omar Ortiz, Anthony Ortiz, and Michael D. Barron along with two cousins: Louie and Rene Lavios are honored to be serving as his pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Hector "Buddy" Garcia, Mike Hernandez, and Willie Molina.
