Gilberto "Toe" Martinez Jr.

Gilberto Martinez, Jr., 68, beloved brother, uncle, godfather, cousin, and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Toe, as he was affectionately known to all was a lifetime resident of Brownsville. Toe enjoyed hunting, camping and spending time with family and friends.

Toe was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those all fortunate enough to have known him.

Toe was preceded in death by his parents: Hortencia “Tencha” and Gilberto “Gil” Martinez; a brother, Idelfonso “Junie” (Irene) Silguero; both his maternal and paternal grandparents and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him are his siblings: Mary (Charles) Varnam Sr., Sandra Martinez Gonzalez, Alberto “Chuca” Martinez, Hector (Phyllis) Martinez and Oscar (Jovita) Martinez; an aunt, Ofelia “File” Molina and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. and continue through 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 7th, 2021 in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Monday evening. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1200 Lincoln St. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Hector Martinez, Noah Eli Ibarra, Charles “Chuck” Varnam, Jr., Leif Ericson Varnam, Oscar Martinez, Justin Martinez, Tommie Gonzalez, and Valentin Mata Jr. are honored to be serving at Toe’s pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Mary Varnam. Sandra Martinez, Alberto “Chuca” Martinez, Hector Martinez, Oscar Martinez, Valentin “Chivo” Mata Sr., Noe Lopez, Rene Lopez, Hector “Peewee” Molina, Gilberto “Beto” Lopez, Arturo Lopez, Pablo Martinez, Mario Martinez, Valentin "Vale" Martinez and Willie Martinez.
