Gordon Eugene Williams

Gordon Eugene Williams, 79, entered into eternal rest at his home on Friday, July 8, 2016 in Brownsville, Texas. He is preceded in death by Jacque Walker Williams, his wife of 58 years.

Mr. Williams was born in 1937 in Sweetwater, Texas and moved to Brownsville with his family to open several local cafes. After his family's arrival, he started working in the longshoring industry at the Port of Brownsville and soon thereafter worked in the shrimping industry. After years of working at the Port, Gordon and Jacque bought Walker's Bait Stand which then created Gordon's Bait & Tackle, Inc., a local mom-and-pop fishing business. Gordon was highly regarded in the Brownsville community for his contributions to the local economy via his business and had a profound impact on so many who were customers. Through his business, he advanced his passion for fishing, shrimping, and his family. Mr. Williams was the keystone of his family and did everything he could to make sure his kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren had the world in the palms of their hands.

Gordon was the second child of E.J. and Christine Williams and the younger brother of George Travis Williams. He is survived by his three children; Sheila (Walter) Montes, Gary (Sherrie) Williams, and Amanda (Jimmy) Burres. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Melissa (Arturo) Alvarado, Gary (Bertha) Williams Jr., Kimberly (Daniel) Espinoza, Joshua Eaves, Jared Eaves, and Ashley Montes. In addition to his grandchildren, he leaves behind four great-grandsons; Jordan Camacho, Justin Camacho, Matthew Eaves, and Nicholas Williams. Mr. Williams leaves behind many other extended family members and friends that have had a profound impact on his and his immediate family's lives.
