Guadalupe (Lupita) Villarreal, 78, of Brownsville entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 27, 2015 in Austin Texas surrounded by her loving family.

Lupita was born on February 3, 1937 at the family ranch, Rancho El Bremo in Starr county. She attended elementary and high school in San Isidro Texas and graduated in 1956. Her Senior year , she was voted Most Talented and was Senior Class Vice President as well as a member of Future Homemakers of America and the San Isidro Tiger Band.

In 1957, she moved to Brownsville and lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Luz and Vicente Vicinaiz and worked for Cisneros Oil Company as a bookkeeper. In 1958, she met Elias Villarreal and they were married on November 17, 1962. She was a bookkeeper at King Mart in downtown Brownsville. In 1970, she quit King Mart and started fulltime at Pan American University, graduating in 3 years, with a Bachelors of Science on August 26, 1973. She began working for Brownsville Independent School District as a Kindergarten teacher, and retired after 34 years, in May 2004. After retirement, she spent over a year in Austin, helping raise her grandson, Chance. She enjoyed walking him in the stroller and going on different outings with him and the family.

Lupita had a green thumb and was able to grow plants of every kind. She especially loved wildflowers and enjoyed seeing the bluebonnets on the highways of Austin. A voracious reader, she enjoyed biographies and autobiographies. She was also a news junkie and enjoyed watching CNN and Fox News. She loved the holidays especially making special foods at Thanksgiving and baking cookies at Christmas. She loved her family and friends, and had a strong faith in God. She was most proud of her beloved grandson, Chance and enjoyed spending time joking with and spoiling him.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Jesusita Trevino, brother, Pablo Trevino, niece, Dana Ramirez, and friends, Carmen Salazar and Irene Gonzalez and her beloved Golden Retriever, Rex.

Lupita is survived by her husband of 53 years Dr. Elias Villarreal; daughter Sylvia Villarreal Mraz & husband Joe; son Elias (Lee) Villarreal, Jr.; grandson Chance Mraz; sister-in-law, Zoyla Villarreal, siblings Maria De La Luz Vicinaiz & husband Vicente, Josefina Trevino; Refugio Trevino & wife Toni, Carmela Longoria & husband Juan Luis. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends, as well as her rat terrier, Herbie. We will always love and miss her.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., today December 1, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
