Harriet H. Light

Harriet Harris Light passed away Thursday evening, at 92 years of age. Harriet was born in Chicago, IL to Jacob and Pearl Harris. She moved to Texas in 1953 and began a family, raising Mike Wiss, Teri Wiss, Pam Karpel, and Amie Herbert. Harriet moved to Brownsville in 1977 and soon met the love of her life, Jere Light. They wed, August 29, 1981.

Harriet was an elementary school teacher for many years, an avid reader, volunteer at the library, and active member of Temple Beth El. She and her husband enjoyed traveling the world together.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, her 6 children and step-children, and numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Harriet’s greatest joy was doting on her family. She will be greatly missed.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at the Historic Brownsville Hebrew Cemetery, located at the corner of East 2nd and Madison St.
