LA FERIA, TX. - Hilario Gerardo Ybarra, of La Feria, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, the 25th of February 2026 at the age of 75. Known to his friends as Larry, he was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend.
Born on September 28, 1950 in Bayview, Texas to Hilario Zamora Ybarra and Maria Luisa (Amaya) Ybarra, he lived a life filled with hard work, love, and dedication.
He graduated from Texas A&M University with his master's degree, before working as an ag teacher for La Feria High School until his retirement. He married Gloria (Gallegos) Ybarra on April 1, 1983, and together they shared 41 years. Larry was known for his love of agriculture and horticulture, as well as his dedication to family and friends. His interests extended beyond the classroom. He had a profound love for animals, and enjoyed hobbies, including hunting, fishing, and cooking. His infamous buttermilk biscuits were always a family favorite.
As we bid farewell to Larry, we celebrate the extraordinary life he led and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Preceding Larry in death are his parents, Hilario Zamora Ybarra and Maria Luisa Ybarra; his beloved wife, Gloria G. Ybarra; his children, Cynthia Deanna Torres and Rick Edward Torres, and his brother, Carlos Alonso Ybarra.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Flores (Michael); grandchildren, Annabelle Laureles and Xavier Flores; and siblings, Juan Manuel Ybarra, Maria del Carmen Moya, Ana Luisa Ybarra, Maria Graciela Davidson, Maria Antonia Lopez, and Judith Ann Ybarra.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, the 1st of March 2026 between the hours of two o'clock and six o'clock in the evening, with a recitation of the holy rosary to be recited at four o'clock Sunday afternoon within the West Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. All services will conclude Sunday evening.
In lieu of floral arrangements and customary remembrances, contributions in his memory may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
