James Derek Calvert

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – James Derek Calvert, 60, of Brownsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, the 26th of July 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 5, 1965, in Linton, Indiana, Derek was raised in the close-knit community of Worthington, where he learned early the values of hard work, loyalty, and perseverance from his family, friends, and hometown. Those who knew Derek growing up remember him not only for his intelligence, but also for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was a devoted son, a supportive and beloved brother to his sister, Francine, and someone as fun-loving as he was driven, who carried his Indiana roots with him wherever life led. A graduate of Worthington Jefferson High School, Derek was valedictorian of the Class of 1984 before earning a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and Industrial Management from Purdue University and an MBA from Ball State University.

Derek built an accomplished career in operations, manufacturing, and global supply chain leadership spanning more than three decades. He began his professional journey with Delco/Delphi Automotive, where he spent 27 years earning the respect of colleagues through his integrity, leadership, and ability to solve complex challenges.

He later brought his expertise to Inteva Products before joining Dormakaba, where he served as Associate Vice President, Materials Management. Throughout his career, Derek was recognized for building strong teams, mentoring future leaders, and finding practical solutions to difficult problems. His contributions earned him numerous professional honors, but those who worked alongside him will remember him most for his steady leadership, generous mentorship, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Derek will be remembered most for the life he built with the people he loved. He shared 18 wonderful years with his wife, Marcia, whose love and partnership brought him great joy. His favorite days were often the simplest: running errands together, spending time with their dogs, calling his daughters, Morgan and Mackenzie, and playing with his great-nephew, Andre. As a father, Derek deeply loved and believed in his girls, challenging them to think bigger, work harder, and become the best versions of themselves.

Derek was an avid sports fan who enjoyed everything from football and basketball to car racing and horse racing. He could often be found watching a true crime documentary or quoting lines from his favorite movies, usually with his signature sarcasm and impeccable timing. His sense of humor kept those around him laughing, and there was rarely a day that went by without a funny text or a movie quote.

Derek was pragmatic, clever, and the kind of person people naturally turned to for advice. He inspired those around him not only through words, but through the example he set every day. More than anything, he leaves behind a family that will forever carry his lessons, his jokes, and the love he showed them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Calvert of Worthington, Indiana.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Calvert; by his daughters, Morgan Calvert of Dallas, Texas and Mackenzie Calvert Najarian and her husband Tyler of Houston, Texas; by his sister, Francine Calvert Lee and her husband Mark of Indianapolis, Indiana; and by his niece, Perla Amaro and her husband and son, Jose and Andre Contreras of Brownsville, Texas.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, the 8th of August 2026, between the hours of four o'clock in the afternoon and six o'clock in the evening, with a Celebration of Life service to begin at five o'clock Saturday afternoon within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Immediately following, family and friends are invited to a reception to be held in the adjacent dining room.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital, as well as to the many family members, friends, and colleagues who offered their support, whether in person or from afar, during this difficult time. Their kindness, prayers, and support brought great comfort to Derek's family and will never be forgotten.
