Joel Resendez, Jr.

BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Joel Resendez, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Thursday, the 13th of August 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant in San Antonio, Texas. He was 38 years of age.

Joel was born in San Antonio, Texas on the 11th of January 1988, son of Joel Resendez, Sr. and Alicia Margenau Resendez. They later moved to Brownsville, Texas where he graduated from Los Fresnos High School at the age of 17, Class of 2005. He then went on to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from The University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley, with a double major in Business/Finance.

Joel enjoyed partaking in his two major passions, playing poker and watching and traveling to watch his favorite sports teams with his father: the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, Houston Astros, and San Antonio Spurs. He also enjoyed watching movies and the gameshow network channel with his mother, having cookouts, and taking his nieces and nephews to Chuck E. Cheese and bowling. He was a collector of trading cards, a gamer, and a self-made hustler at a young age by selling candy in the school bus, and he cared very deeply for his beloved pets, Goofy and Clarabelle, and loved his Rolex watches.

Preceding Joel in death are his grandparents, Jimmy and Margarita Margenau, and Gilberto Resendez, Jr.

He is survived by his father, Joel Resendez Sr.; his mother, Alicia Margenau Resendez; his sisters, Lorraine Garcia (Nikki) and Kassandra Resendez; his brother-in-law, Jonathan Mireles; his nieces and nephews, Brandon Stevens, Aubree Stevens, Ashton Stevens, Kendrick Hernandez, and Kamilla Mireles; his grandmother, Maria Resendez; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the ICU and Liver Transplant Unit nurses and staff of Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant of San Antonio, Texas and to the Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, Steven R. Hieu Bailey, CFSP and staff for their kindness, support, care, and unwavering dedication provided to Joel that brought peace to our family during this difficult time.

Joel was a loving son, brother, and friend whose presence left a lasting impression. He carried himself with a strong sense of compassion, generosity, loyalty, and an unforgettable sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him, and his absence will be felt in the quiet, everyday moments that he made better just by being there.

Although his physical presence is no longer with us, we ask that you join us in thought and prayer as we honor Joel’s life and the memories of him that we will forever cherish.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, the 19th of August 2026 between the hours of one o'clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

Visiting hours will resume on Thursday, the 20th of August 2026 between the hours of eleven o'clock in the morning and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to be recited at seven o'clock Thursday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 21st of August 2026 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1200 Lincoln Street, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.

Honored to serve as his pallbearers are Joel Resendez, Sr., Brandon Stevens, Kendrick Hernandez, Jonathan Mireles, Jaime Fuentes, Rolando Muniz, Louie Pena, Danny Garcia, Jose De La Fuente, and Ashton Stevens as honorary pallbearer.
