Johnny Emerson Cooper

Johnny Emerson Cooper, 78, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.

Johnny, a native of Oakridge, Roatan, Honduras, was a longtime resident of Brownsville. He was a Shrimp Boat Captain and worked in the Shrimping Industry his entire life. Johnny was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by those fortunate to have known him.

Johnny is preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Juarez Cooper; his parents, Della and Emerson Cooper; and a sister and brother-in-law, Elsa and Frank Alfano.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of Johnny are his wife, Ma. del Carmen Rodriguez Cooper; his children: Carolyn Cooper, Johnny (Perla) Cooper Jr., Audrey (David) Fuller, Elsa (Teodoro Cisneros) Cooper, Aldo Rodriguez, and Icelda V. (Sony) Raza; the 12 grandchildren that were his pride and joy: Gil (Norma) Cooper, Alan, Jenna, & Aiden Cooper, Brettney, Mea, & Samuel Fuller, Lauren, Joseph, & Shannon Cruz, Yaquelin Mujica, and Matthew Cisneros; his great-granddaughter, Zoe Grace Cooper. Johnny will also be missed by his siblings: Ruth Tatum, Ralph (Alba) Cooper, and Sadie (John) Wentworth along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, and continue through 9:00 p.m. in the East chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. A prayer service is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening followed by a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. A Chapel Service is scheduled for 12 Noon on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
