BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Johnny “Boy” Villarreal, of Brownsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 76 years of age.
Johnny was born on July 27, 1949, in Brownsville, son of the late Josefina and Juan Villarreal. A proud lifelong resident, he was a graduate of Brownsville High School and remained a steadfast part of the city he always called home. He carried deep roots in the community that shaped him and where he dedicated his life’s work.
A successful businessman and owner of La Milpa Tortilleria, Johnny built more than a business, he built a place where generations of families were served with care. His work was a reflection of who he was: dependable, humble, and deeply committed to providing for others.
Johnny was a man of simple joys and enduring values. He found peace in the outdoors, whether fishing at sunrise, hunting with friends, or spending time around the things he loved most, including his passion for automobiles. Above all, his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loving grandfather whose quiet strength and steady presence will be deeply missed.
He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where his faith guided him throughout his life.
Johnny will be remembered for the life he lived with quiet dignity, the family he loved so deeply, and the lasting imprint he leaves on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Preceding Johnny in death are his parents, Josefina and Juan Villarreal.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Magdalena Villarreal, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership; his children, Joanna Villarreal and John Villarreal (Lynette); his cherished grandchildren, Valentina Villarreal and Antonio Villarreal, who brought him immense pride and joy; and his siblings, Martha V. Altamirano, Lily Champion (Fernando), Irma Morelos, and Albert Villarreal. He is also survived by numerous extended family members and dear friends who will carry his memory forward.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, the 24th of March 2026 between the hours of four o'clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to be recited at seven o'clock Tuesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
