Jose A. Elizondo, 90, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at his residence in Brownsville surrounded by his loving family.
Nayo, as he was affectionately known to all, a native of Nuevo Laredo, Tamps., Mexico came to Brownsville in 1956. He worked in the shrimping industry and cold storage including: Pan Am, Booth Fisheries, Sea Breeze, TexMex, & Sierra Refrigerating Co. Nayo taught himself the English language and was able to work his way up to a managerial position. Nayo's favorite past times were watching the Dallas Cowboys, going to Las Vegas to gamble, cooking out and spending time with family; but what he enjoyed most was spending time watching and cheering his grandsons in all sporting events but especially in baseball which was his favorite sport. Nayo was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.
Nayo was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Audelia Elizondo; a son, Jose A. Elizondo; his parents; Federico and Juanita Elizondo; 3 sisters: Amelia Elizondo, Irma Flores, & Graciela Elizondo and 3 brothers: Ernesto, Federico, and Roberto Elizondo.
Nayo is survived by his children: Gilberto (Maria), Martha Elizondo, Federico (Magdalena), Olga Ruiz, Jose Luis (Olivia), Xavier, Joe (Yolanda), Eva (Thomas) Clipper, Michelle (Rodney) De Leon, and Danny (Lisa) Elizondo; 35 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Nayo will also be missed by 3 sisters: Ester Elizondo, Cleofas Santos, and Blanca Elizondo along with numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 5:00 p.m. this afternoon at Darling-Mouser. The Funeral Service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Nayo's grandsons: Xavier Jr., Michael, Danny, and Ethan Elizondo, Juan Gonzalez and Adrian Alatorre are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their beloved grandfather. Derek, Xavier Elizondo III and Joe Elizondo will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Nayo's family would like to say thank you to Yolanda Elizondo, daughter-in-law and caregiver, who cared for Nayo in the final months of his life at home.
