Josefina E. Huerta

BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Josefina E. Huerta entered into eternal rest on Saturday, the 26th of April 2025 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville. She was 74 years of age.

Josefina was born in Brownsville, Texas on June 1, 1950, daughter of the late Jose Guadalupe Espinosa and Lucia Martinez Espinosa. She married her beloved husband Jose Manuel Huerta on November 24, 1979 and together they had two children, Lucy and Florentino. After college, she worked as an assistant librarian at The University of Texas at Brownsville until her retirement after 33 years. A devout Catholic, Josefina was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brownsville. Her favorite pastimes were reading, her love for elephants, spending time with her family, and she cherished her granddaughters greatly.

Preceding Josefina in death were her parents, Jose Guadalupe Espinosa and Lucia M. Espinosa, and her brothers, Guadalupe Espinosa, Jr., and Efrain Espinosa.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 45 years, Jose Manuel Huerta; her daughter, Lucy Huerta; her son, Florentino Huerta (Laura); her granddaughters, Amelia Marie Huerta, Ava Isabel Huerta, and Ellie Aurora Huerta; her brothers, Alfredo Espinosa (Frances), Rolando Espinosa (Sylvia), Ernesto Espinosa (Mary Ann), and Alejandro Espinosa (Ramona); and her sisters, Juanita Zamora (Rolando) and Margarita Hernandez (Jose).

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 1st of May 2025 between the hours of twelve noon and nine o'clock at night, with a blessing and recitation of the holy rosary to commence at seven o'clock Thursday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. All services will conclude Thursday night. Cremation will follow.
