Lucille Phyllis Balaja

RANCHO VIEJO, TX. - Lucille Phyllis Balaja of Berwyn, Illinois, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior at the age of 89 on Thursday, the 24th of July 2025, after a long life marked by unwavering faith, love for her family, and devotion to Jesus Christ.

Lucille was born on February 18, 1936 in Berwyn, Illinois, daughter of the late Charles J. Lid and Phyllis L. Lid. A faithful servant to the Lord, Lucille lived each day with a quiet strength and steadfast belief in God’s promises. Her life was a testimony to grace, humility, and the power of prayer. She was a member of Cornerstone Community Church and First Baptist Church of Brownsville, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anton Jerry Balaja, Sr.; by her sons, Anton Jerry Balaja, Jr. (Diane) and James Charles Balaja (Mary Jane); by her parents, Charles J. Lid and Phyllis L. Lid; and by her brother, Charles J. Lid II. Though she endured great loss, her heart remained tender and full of hope in Christ.

Lucille is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Christine Carol Slager (Robert); her grandchildren, Sarah Lynn Balaja-Collins (Charles), Kelsey Ann Balaja, Russell A. Slager (Sandra), Rachel F. Lee (James); her precious great-grandchildren, Nathanael, Anna, Allison, Jacob, Jackson, Sophie, Emma, Kaison, and Lucie; and by her brother, Philip A. Lid (Kay). Each of them carries forward her legacy of faith, strength, and compassion.

She was the matriarch of her family, a prayer warrior, and a quiet encourager whose love reflected the heart of Jesus. Her gentle spirit and unshakeable faith brought comfort to all who knew her. Whether through a kind word, a thoughtful prayer, or a loving embrace, Lucille touched lives in ways that will never be forgotten.

Her life was a light - steadily shining the love of Christ to those around her. Though we mourn her passing, we rejoice knowing she is now home with the Lord, hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

As per her request, there will be no services.
