Luis F. Castro

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Luis F. Castro of Brownsville, Texas passed away on Thursday, the 22nd December 2022. He was eighty-seven years of age.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Champion Castro; his daughter, Laura Castro Creamer (Joe) of Houston, Texas; his son, Lou Castro (Melissa) of Brownsville, Texas; his four grandchildren Zach Creamer, Maria Creamer, Jake Creamer, and Champ Castro; his sisters, Mina Besteiro of Brownsville, Texas and Gloria Champion of Guadalajara, Mexico; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.

Preceding Luis in death were his parents, Luis F. Castro and Aurora B. Guerra Castro.

After earning his bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1957, he served in the United States Army. Following his military service, he was employed by Baker Oil Tools as a Project Engineer, initially in Houston, Texas and then in Los Angeles, California, and quickly ascended to the position of Chief Product Engineer, developing many patents.

He married Martha in 1962 and a few years after his daughter was born, decided to move his family from California back to Houston, Texas. This move led to a career shift that would impact the rest of his life. In 1969 he began working for The Kickerillo Company, one of Houston's notable residential home builders. He quickly ascended to the position of Vice President of Operations and helped develop and build some of Houston's most well-known subdivisions.

After the birth of his son and to be closer to extended family, Luis decided to move his family to Brownsville in 1973 and start his own residential construction company, "Laura Construction Company". He was also an owner and Board Member of Southern Texas Title Company. He and Martha worked together building homes and developing neighborhoods for nearly thirty years. Luis and Martha retired in 2001 to enjoy life and their grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, reading, playing poker, and watching Aggie football. His love for Texas A&M influenced a second and a third generation of "Aggies."
