Miss Lydia Lila Paredes, of Brownsville, died on May 13, 2010 in peace at her home. Lila was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, born on March 10, 1936, to Lorenzo Paredes Sr., and Amelia Garza Paredes. She graduated from Brownsville High School in 1955 and was an educator for 37 years with the Brownsville Independent School District. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Womans University, and her Masters degree from Antioch.
Lila was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner at Mary Mother of the Church St. Marys, where she was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Bishop Adolph Marx 1988. She loved to garden and go birding which went hand in hand with her love of nature.
Lila was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lorenzo Paredes and Amelia Garza Paredes of Brownsville and her brother, Lorenzo Paredes Jr.
She is survived by her siblings, Blanca Richard Trevio of Brownsville, Irma Charles Coddington of DeMotte, Indiana, Hector Betty Paredes of Crown Point, Indiana, Sergio Paredes of Brownsville, her sisterinlaw, Naty Paredes of East Chicago, Indiana and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at DarlingMouser Funeral Home with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2010 at St. Marys. All services will conclude after the Mass.
