In 1983, the two moved to Wichita, Kansas where Ernie taught at the University of Kansas Medical School and directed the family practice residency.
She loved South Texas where the couple started visiting in the 1970s. They have had a home in Rancho Viejo, Texas since 1983, and retired there permanently in 2006.

In Wichita, she was the President of the womens auxiliary for St. Joseph Hospital and she volunteered her time there often while Ernie taught medicine.
She loved her family dearly and was an avid Kansas Jayhawk basketball fan. Getting together to watch a game with the whole family was one of her favorite past times. She also loved to play bridge and go dancing with Ernie.
