Maria Raquel Vera Muñoz

Maria Raquel Vera Muñoz, 74, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, cousin, and friend entered into the glory of her eternal life on Friday, June 2, 2017, at Sunshine Haven Hospice Care Facility in Olmito, Texas with her family at her side.

Rachel, as she was known to all, was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. A dedicated teacher with the BISD for 34 years all at Annie S. Putegnat Elementary, Rachel touched the lives of countless of our community's children. In her spare time, Rachel who had an artistic soul loved to paint. She also enjoyed gardening and loved sunflowers; and like most women loved to shop. A longtime parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church, she touched the lives of the parish youth as a CCE teacher. Rachel was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends but by all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, Maria Raquel Delgado Vera and Armando Vera; and an infant daughter, Melissa Ivette Muñoz.

Rachel is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 48 years: Enrique H. Muñoz; her children: Marco Enrique Muñoz and his wife Tammy, Melinda Annette Muñoz, and Veronica Leilani Esquivel and her husband Benjamin; the 2 grandchildren that were the apple of her eye: Merrick Asher & Emily Kurenai Esquivel; the cousin that was like a sister to her: Hilda Alarcon and her husband Santos. Rachel will also be missed by numerous cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

The visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. and continue through 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 4th, 2017, in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 on Monday, June 5th, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Rd. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
