Maria A. Pope

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Maria A. (Mrs. William E.) Pope peacefully left this world on Tuesday, February 02, 2021 at her residence.

A loving mother and doting grandmother, she is survived by her son, Judge William L. Pope; two grandchildren, Ana L. Pope and William E. Pope II; two younger siblings and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Pope, her parents, and three brothers.

Known to family and friends as Maria, Mary, Toni, "Popees" or any combination thereof, her face would light up the room and definitely spice up the conversation! She spent over three decades in public service, starting in 1955 at the Cameron County Engineer's Office and retiring in 1989 from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Law Enforcement Division. In retirement, she particularly enjoyed keeping the most beautiful yard in the neighborhood and preparing famously scrumptious spaghetti, lasagna and apple tarts. Simply being around her invited a memorable experience. She will be dearly missed but always brought to mind with a broad smile.

The family will be having a private memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, we are sure a donation to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Sunny Glen Children's Home would bring a big smile to her face.

Personalized funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home at 945 Palm Boulevard in Brownsville, Texas 78520, (956) 546-7111.
