BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Maria Alicia Galindo of Brownsville, Texas entered into eternal rest on Sunday, the 26th of February 2023, while peacefully in her sleep in the comfort of Brownsville residence. She was eighty-eight years of age.

Mrs. Galindo was born in Taft, Texas on April 8, 1934, daughter of Francisco and Estela Rivera. She was a clerk typist in the personal secretary branch of the G-2 Section at the headquarters of the Fourth United States Army at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Over the years, she served as the Past Auxiliary President of The Cameron County Bar Association, worked as a Realtor and Real Estate Broker, and taught at Resaca Elementary School until her retirement from the Brownsville Independent School District. Mrs. Galindo was also a member of The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Bishop Adolph Marx Court No. 1988 and a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Altar and Rosary Society. Mrs. Galindo was a loving and dedicated mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt who will be dearly missed.

Preceding Mrs. Galindo in death was her loving husband, Federico “Fred” Galindo; her parents, Francisco and Estela Rivera; her brothers, Ricardo Alfonso and Ruben Jaime Rivera; her sister-in-law, Isabel Perez; her brothers-in-law Desiderio Galindo, Adolfo Galindo, and Luis Galindo; and her grandsons, Robert Christopher Galindo and Aiden Isaiah Galindo.

Survivors include her seven children Carlos R. Galindo (Norma), Robert E. Galindo (Nancy), Stephen M. Galindo, T. Theresa Jones (Bertoldo), Patricia C. Galindo, Diane K. Christensen (Wayland), and Cynthia A. Diaz (Arturo); her sister, Elia Imelda Garza (Gilbert); her brother, Jose Francisco Rivera; her sisters-in-law Francis Galindo, Margarita Rios, and Maria Luisa Landeros; in addition to her sixteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, the 3rd of March 2023 between the hours of three o’clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Friday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at twelve noon on Saturday, the 4th of March 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.

Honored to be serving as her pallbearers are Carlos R. Galindo, Robert E. Galindo, Stephen M. Galindo, Wayland R. Christensen, Arturo Diaz, and Joseph F. Galindo.

Honorary pallbearers are Fred Galindo, Marco Galindo, Michael Diaz, Robert Christensen, Stephen Galindo II, Thomas Burriss, and Carlos Rocha.
