Maria Eva Avila

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Maria Eva Avila, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at the age of 85.

Born to Julio Perez and Eva Escobedo on July 13, 1935, in Brownsville, Texas, she was the 5th of 6 children. She was a graduate of Brownsville High School Class of 1955. She was considered a pioneer of her time as she completed her Bachelors Degree at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos and went on to earn her Masters of Education from East Texas State University.  She starting teaching in 1957 with the Brownsville Independent School District, where she taught thousands of young minds for over 40 years. Aside from being "everyone's favorite teacher," she helped children in need at the Lincoln Park Alternative High School as well teaching teenage pregnant students on an individual basis. While her heart was in teaching, her spirit was all about giving both to her family as well as her community. She was a mother, friend, mentor, and most of all an inspiration to so many. She will be missed, but is now at home and at peace with her husband, Victorio, and showering us all with smiles and blessings.

She is survived by her two sons, Victor Patrick Avila and Michael Gerard Avila; two grandchildren, Mia Claire Avila and Evan Michael Avila; and one brother, Roberto Perez.
