BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Mary Rojas entered into eternal rest on Friday, the 23rd of December 2022 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was eighty years of age.
Mary was born in Robstown, Texas on July 14, 1942, daughter of Jesus and Virginia Herrera Lopez. She grew up in Robstown with her five siblings and graduated from Robstown High School. Mary married Epimenio Rojas, Jr. on September 16, 1959 and together they had four children. A devout Catholic, she was an avid parishioner of St. Luke Catholic Church where she served in the choir, bereavement group, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas St. Luke Court. Her family was her world. She was a second mother to her grandchildren who were her pride and joy, and she always supported them in all of their academic events, never missing any event. Mary retired from the Brownsville Independent School District in 2015 upon the graduation of her last grandchild from Hanna High School. Her favorite pastimes included reading books, working with her plants, going for walks, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and traveling to Las Vegas and Coushatta in Louisiana.
Preceding Mary in death was her loving and devoted husband, Epimenio Rojas, Jr.; her infant son, Jesus Rojas; her parents, Jesus and Virginia T. Lopez; and her siblings Manuel Lopez (Guadalupe +), Jesus Lopez (Josie), Cruz Quintanilla (Lorenzo +), and Elena Hernandez (Juan).
Survivors include her children Nelda Naal (Cesar), Epimenio Rojas III (Liz), Norma Jean Cano (Luis), and Edward Rojas (Kristie); her grandchildren Xavier Elizondo, Jr. (Jennifer), Michael Elizondo (Erika) Christina Elizondo (Kiki Barrientes), Heidi Greensides (Matt), Nathan Rojas (Silvia), Rolando “Chuck” Robledo (Cris), Jordan Cano (Donna), Taylor Alexis Cano, Destiny Cano, Tor Rojas, and Alyssa Rojas; fifteen great-grandchildren; and her sister, Elva Ybarra (Edward).
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 29th of December 2022 between the hours of twelve noon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Thursday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
