BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Mary I. Williams of Brownsville, Texas passed away on Friday, the 29th of March 2024 peacefully in her home. She was eighty-nine years of age.
Mary was born in Brownsville, Texas to Laureano de la Rosa Jr., and Rebecca T. de la Rosa. She was a graduate of Brownsville High School. She attended R&M School of Business and was executive secretary to Kenneth Faxon as part of his realty company for over ten years. In July of 1961, she married Roy “Buster” Williams, Jr., celebrating fifty years of marriage until his death in 2011.
Mary was a loving mother of three children, Jeanette (Chris) of San Antonio, James (Diana) of Brownsville, and John (Dora) of Brownsville. In addition to her children, Mary is survived by her grandchildren Mathew James Williams, Sean Patrick (Sheila Estabillo) Haugh, John David Williams, Jr., James Williams, Jr., and Ashton Michael Williams. Also left to carry on are her sisters Carmen R. LeClere, Odilia de la Rosa, and Teresa de la Rosa.
Visiting hours with the family will be held on Friday, the 5th of April 2024 between the hours of four o’clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at seven o'clock Friday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The family will gather for a private inurnment service at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Brownsville, where Mary will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Roy.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mary may be given to the American Cancer Society or Susan G. Koman Foundation.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Juana, CNA (3rd floor Stroke Unit); Valley Regional Medical Center; and Safe Haven Hospice, specifically Angel B. Fortiscue, RN and Salvador Vazquez, LVN whose professionalism, care, and kindness eased Mary’s transition to her next journey.
