BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Miguel Gonzalez entered into eternal rest on Sunday, the 8th of February 2026 in the comfort of his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 81 years of age.
Mike, as he was affectionately known, was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. Mike was a member of the Texas National Guard and also a veteran of the United States Army.
In his younger years, Mike owned and operated the Pink Panther Bar. He was also a used car salesman for Luke Fruia Motors and was recognized as Salesman of the Year on two occasions.
In his spare time, Mike enjoyed fishing, barbequing and spending time with his family and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Carmen G. Davila; his step-father, Andres Davila; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lucy and Ruben S. Garcia, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Janey Ybarra and Lydia Pearl “Poe” Garcia-Hernandez.
Mike is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years Cristina G. Gonzalez; his children, Michelle Lerma (Hector), Marlene Gonzalez, Miguel “Mikey” Gonzalez, Jr., and Manuel Luis Gonzalez (Melissa); 10 grandchildren Amber Cisneros (Joe), Lucy Saldivar (Christian), Hector Lerma, Jr. (Erika), Lorrie Briones, Miguel Gonzalez III, Joshua Escobedo, Mariano Gonzalez, Maylani Lydia Gonzalez, and Manuel Luis Gonzalez II; 10 great-grandchildren, Aiden and Liam Cisneros, Lexie Briones, Amelia Saldivar, Jose Luis Briones, Jr., Micah Saldivar, Leonel Briones, Emmy Lerma, Callie Jo Cisneros, and Lennon Lerma.
Mike will also be missed by his siblings Graciela “Gracie” Crews, David Davila (Vicky), Andres “Andy” Davila, Jr. (Toni), and Mary Ann Barreda (Jesse), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, the 15th of February 2026 between the hours of eleven o'clock in the morning and three o'clock in the afternoon, with military honors to commence at two o'clock in the afternoon, with the recitation of the holy rosary to follow, within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers are his sons, Miguel “Mikey” Gonzalez, Jr. and Manuel Luis Gonzalez; his grandsons, Hector Lerma, Miguel Gonzalez III, Mariano Gonzalez, Joshua Escobedo and Manuel Luis Gonzalez II; his brothers, David Davila and Andy Davila; and Luis Gonzalez, Quito Gonzalez, Luke Fruia, Jr., Antonio Sarmiento, and Joe Garcia.
