Ninfa Velez

BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Ninfa Velez, lifelong resident of Brownsville, loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, niece, and friend, entered into eternal rest on Friday, the 26th of March 2021 in Brownsville, Texas at the age of seventy-four.

Polio never stopped Ninfa from anything. She married her high school sweetheart Elpidio on the 28th of June 1969. She was so proud of her husband and everything he endured while serving overseas after being drafted into the Vietnam War in 1966. Elpidio survived two gunshot wounds to the head and returned to the States a proud soldier of the United States Army. Ninfa became the rock and the guiding light of the family. She too adored her children, grandchildren, and her uncles Richard, who would visit every day and shared a cup of coffee in the family home, and Arnold, who was raised like a brother alongside her. A devout Catholic, she was an avid parishioner and youth coordinator at several churches and was most recently a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Brownsville, Texas.

She learned to enjoy life and was big on family. Not only did she provide for her family, she also provided for anybody that was fortunate enough to have known her. Her thoughtfulness was shared with family, friends, and even with those that visited her home to deliver mail and packages. Ninfa would always ensure beverages were left for the delivery persons to enjoy and would also gift them with presents as a token of thanks. In her spare time, Ninfa enjoyed decorating her home for every occasionboth inside and out, particularly during holidays, with Christmas being her absolute favorite to celebrate. She favored the color red, making Valentine’s Day her second favorite holiday to decorate for. Those that would visit her home were always greeted by her tasteful décor, organizational appearance, and her plentiful abundance of kindness. Her son’s cooking was a meal Ninfa always looked forward too, always prepared to her absolute liking. She also enjoyed listening to country, Tejano, and oldies music while singing along with Elpidio, as well aswatching football and baseball games with the Houston Astros being her favorite baseball team.

Ninfa was always available for prayers needed and was very serving to those in need. She will forever be remembered for her kindness and compassion she exhibited to many.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Josefina Salinas.

Ninfa is survived by her loving and devoted husband of fifty-one years, Elpidio Velez, Sr.; their children, Kimberly Ann Velez-Resendez (Cruz) and Elpidio Velez, Jr. (Ruby); grandchildren Ivan, Adam, Kacey, Kayleann, Nataly, Brianna, and Priya; her sister, Margaret Packer (Frank +); niece, Julie Aldape (Juan); and by her beloved uncles, Richard Salinas (Gloria +) and Arnold Salinas (Elida) and numerous extended family members.
