BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Paula Cortez Tamayo, 88, went peacefully to be with her Creator on Tuesday, the 15th of December 2020 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Paula worked for the Cameron County Juvenile Department for 20 years until her retirement. She enjoyed piecing together puzzles, Seek-A-Word, and playing with her great-grandchildren, Scarlett Fischer and Michael Acosta. She will be missed by all of those fortunate enough to have known her.

She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Pablo M. Tamayo on the 12th of September 2012.

She is survived by her 3 children: Luis Carlos Tamayo (Carolina), Belinda Tamayo (Erasmo E. Rodriguez), and Norma T. Castillo (Rolando); her siblings: Dora Balli (Jesus +), Minnie Molengraf (Gordon +), Louis Cortez, and Facundo Cortez, Jr. (Nina); 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, the 18th of December 2020 between the hours of three o’clock in the afternoon and seven o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to be held at seven o'clock Friday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 19th of December 2020 at the historic Immaculate Conception Cathedral at 1218 E. Jefferson Street, Brownsville, Texas 78520. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville, Texas 78521.

Honored to be serving as pallbearers are Erasmo Rodriguez, Erasmo Rodriguez, Jr., Luis Carlos Tamayo, Jr., Juan Alberto Tamayo, and David Gonzalez. Raven Belle Fischer, Luis Carlos Tamayo, Jr., and Erasmo Rodriguez, Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearers.

A Special Thanks to Valley Baptist Medical Center, Dr. Jesus Ortiz, Superior Hospice, Dr. Lilia Hernandez, St. Eugene de Mazenod Catholic Church, Reverend Kevin A. Collins, OMI, and everyone who prayed for our family.
