Pauline G. Garcia

Pauline G. Garcia, who lived to be 100, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday morning, August 18th, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family. Pauline, who resided with her daughter in Rancho Viejo, was a lifetime resident of her beloved Rio Grande Valley.

Born near La Feria in Cameron County, Texas, Pauline's family moved to Brownsville where she graduated from Brownsville High School in 1935. She later attended Moothart Business College. After marrying Joe Cano Garcia, Sr. in 1940, she and her husband focused on raising their young family throughout the post-war years. After her children were of school age, Pauline began her professional career in banking, having worked at First National Bank and later at Brownsville Savings & Loan. Following her husband's passing in 1972 and after retiring, she took up china painting and played bridge with the late Virginia Estrada and their tight circle of friends, with whom she remained close for most of her adult life. While Pauline's husband had worked for Pan American Airways in the 1940's, it wasn't until later in life that she began to travel extensively with her daughter and grandson to such far flung places as Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Canada, New England and the Florida Keys. Although she lived primarily in the Valley her entire lifetime, she was a fearless traveler and found herself happiest whenever she was with family or friends. She will be lovingly remembered for her zest for life, humor, sense of adventure and everlasting smile.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo Gonzales and Romana Llanes Gonzales; husband, Joe Cano Garcia Sr.; sons, Hector Garcia, Uvaldo Garcia, and aunt, Julia Llanes. Pauline is survived by her son; Joe Cano Garcia (and his wife Cindy); daughter, Christine Aistrich; grandchildren, Joanna Garcia, Les Aistrich, Amanda Garcia; and her great-grandson, Joshua Stringer.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m Wednesday evening in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Following the visitation and rosary, a reception for family and friends to celebrate her life will be held from 8:00 p.m. - 10 p.m. at Gourmet Central by Cel, located at 515 W. 4th Street in Brownsville.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 602 E. Elizabeth Street, Brownsville, Texas. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park, 125 McDavitt Blvd. Brownsville, Texas. All are welcome to attend.

Honored to be Pauline's pallbearers include Joe Cano Garcia, Les Aistrich, Michael Lee Blair, Michael Mark Attaway, Christopher Juarez and Rev. David Mann.
The Family would like to thank Safe Haven Hospice nurses Leonel, Paulino, and Carla, along with Rosie Garza (social worker), The Reverend David Mann, and a very deep and heartfelt appreciation to Maria Aguilera, Pauline's caretaker for many years, for her unwavering support, care and dedication.
