At the young age of nineteen, Ramiro served his nation honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Returning from the war, he began his career in sales. He retired after fifty-one years of service with Gulf Coast Paper Company with customers throughout the Rio Grande Valley and Mexico. He was a well-known salesman who traveled throughout the area providing the best customer service.

A community servant, Ramiro belonged to many organizations such as the Catholic War Veterans, the Knights of Columbus, The Order of Alhambra, and The American Legion. He was always ready to share his stories of his adventures growing up, traveling in Europe during his time in the service and family memories. Ramiro was always ready to guide and give advice. Raising a family of nine, the Gomez household was always a full and busy one. The family enjoyed cheering each other on in their school events and athletic competitions. Ramiro and his wife supported their children and their friends during their time in high school by leading and serving proudly on the Pace Viking Athletic Booster Club.

Ramiro had many hobbies and he enjoyed working in his garden for hours. He loved traveling with Anita, family and friends going on many excursions throughout the years. He was the family historian, taking pictures at every event, writing notes and memories to honor and preserve the Gomez family tree.
