From Shepard to Brownsville Businessman

Brownsville resident Don Raul Garza, Sr., 86, was born in Bishop, Texas on November 15, 1921 and passed away on January 4, 2008. He was a well known businessman in Brownsville, Texas for the last 52 years.

Don Raul started his path to success with a very meager background as a goat shepard in Mexico, where he finished his 6th grade education before traveling back to the United States to start his businesses in South Texas and raise his 12 children. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Don Raul was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Escobedo Garza; 2 sisters, Beatriz Garza and Carmela Gonzalez; and 2 brothers, Eduardo and Andres Garza.

Left behind to eternally treasure his memory is his wife, Francisca T. Garza; his 12 children; Willie E. Rebecca Garza, Raul Jaime Garza, Jr., Gracie Carlos Gonzalez, Bertha Carlos Castillo, Vangie David Juarez, Katie Rick Quintanilla, Henry Yolanda Garza, Hector M. Myra Garza, Beatriz Bea Garza, Mary Lou James Gallego, Rosie Epitacio Cortinas, and Linda Joe Roberts; 31 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Sofia Gomez and Feliciana Gabriel de la Rosa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2008 and continue through 9 p.m. with a Prayer Service celebrating his life scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser. The funeral service will he held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2007 at Templo Emmanuel, 801 W. Levee, St. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Don Rauls family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Doctors and Staff at Solara Hospital-Brownsville and Brownsville Nursing and Rehab. Center, for the wonderful and compassionate care that was administered to him while he was under their care. They will remain eternally grateful for all you did for him and the family.
