Rebecca Lynn Shonk Cascos, 69, passed away at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas, on Sunday, September 12, 2021.
Becky, as she was known to all was born in South Haven, MI but grew up in Indiana. Becky was a proud veteran of the US Army and served our country proudly during the Vietnam War. Becky came to Brownsville in 1975. She attended TSC during 1975 and 1976. Becky went back to Indiana, but she had fallen in love with Brownsville and came back to live here. Becky was a comptroller for various local companies the last one being Southern Texas Title now Edwards Abstract.
Becky was the life of the party, nicknamed the “Energizer Bunny”. Her smile would light up the room. Becky enjoyed family gatherings, indoor plants, and decorating her home.
Becky was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known her.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Clara Jane and Leon Shonk, and a brother, Ray Shonk.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Hugo A. Cascos Jr.; her children: Elliot Justin Shull, Laura Cascos Wilkinson, and Carlos A. Cascos; 2 grandchildren: Ethan and Evan Wilkinson; 1 sister, Zena Riddell and 3 brothers: Russell (Julie), Randy, and Ramsey Shonk along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members.
In accordance with Becky’s wishes, she will be cremated.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September, 16, 2021, from 2:00 pm to 9 pm. Military honors will be rendered by the VFW Funeral Honor Guard at 6:45 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service which will be livestreamed is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Becky's cremated remains will be inurned on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021, in the Mausoleum at Buena Vista Burial Park. We ask that you meet in the Mausoleum at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning,

Becky’s family would like to thank Marie and Juan Gonzalez, Olga and Ernie Villarreal, Patsy and Martin Hinojosa, Corina and Tommy Villarreal, Candi and Carlos H. Cascos, and Gloria C. and Gilberto Rico families for all they did for her and them during her illness. They took her and her family as their own and we are forever grateful.
