Richard "Rick" Garcia

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Rick Garcia earned his wings and entered the gates of Heaven on Thursday, the 27th of August 2026, at the age of 71.

Born on October 11, 1954, son of Luz Garcia and Bernardino Garcia, Rick was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness and gentle spirit touched the lives of many.

Rick was a teacher who dedicated many years to educating students and inspiring others. He had a lifelong love of music and technology and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. Rick also had a distinctive sense of style and a striking presence that was uniquely his own. He was impeccably dressed and carried himself with confidence and individuality.

To his nieces and nephews, Rick was the all-around cool uncle and, to many of us, a second father. He was someone who could be looked up to, trusted, and loved. His kindness, warmth, and genuine care made him a special and lasting presence in the lives of those fortunate enough to call him family.

Above all, Rick was an extraordinary father, son, and husband. He loved his family deeply and was a source of strength, love, and inspiration to those closest to him. To Sylvia and Megan, Rick was their hero, their protector, the one who lifted them up, and the one who always seemed to know how to save the day. His love for them was at the heart of who he was.

Rick leaves behind his loving wife, Sylvia Garcia, and his daughter, Megan Garcia. He also leaves behind his beloved fur babies, Tinkerbell and Thumbelina, who absolutely adored their “Poppa.” His family and fur babies were his whole world, and the love and devotion he had for them was evident in everything he did.

He is also survived by his siblings, Norma Campos, Margie Garcia, and Oscar Garcia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Rick will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love of music and technology, his dedication as a teacher, his striking sense of style, his passion for his favorite teams, and, most of all, the love he gave so generously to his family and friends.

His presence will forever live on in the lives of those fortunate enough to have called him family and friend. The stories, laughter, memories, and love he shared will continue to be cherished by all who knew him.

Rick was deeply loved, will be greatly missed, and will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 3rd of September 2026 between the hours of five o'clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to be recited at seven o'clock Thursday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at nine o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 4th of September 2026 at the historic Immaculate Conception Cathedral, 1218 E. Jefferson Street, Brownsville. All services will conclude at the church.
